There will be changes in Finnpilot Pilotage Oy’s management team as of September 1, 2024, when the current Pilotage Director Sanna Sonninen moves to Traficom as Maritime Director. Finnpilot will establish a new position of Chief Operating Officer, combining the responsibilities of the former Pilotage and Transport Directors. Aki Marjasvaara, MSc (Tech.) and Master Mariner, who has been Finnpilot’s Transport Director since 2014, has been appointed to the position.

– The new position of Chief Operating Officer aims to streamline the coordination of all operational activities and help us to streamline processes and create the conditions for more straightforward decision-making. I am pleased to have Aki Marjasvaara from within the company in this new role. Aki’s background and expertise will bring valuable insight to this determined development work, from within the company, says Kari Kosonen, CEO of Finnpilot.

– I would like to thank Sanna Sonninen for her remarkable work in developing the Finnish pilotage industry over the past seven years. Traficom and Finnish shipping are gaining a very strong expert for an important task. We wish Sanna every success in her new role, Kosonen continues.

– Our work community is a unique concentration of maritime expertise in Finland, and the importance of our services for shipping has grown even more as the operating environment has changed. It is an honour to serve the company and our customers in the role of Chief Operating Officer. We want to ensure that our customers and stakeholders continue to receive the highest possible value from our expertise, says Aki Marjasvaara.
– We have also made significant progress in recent years in creating knowledge within our organisation. This is a development I wish to continue, Marjasvaara adds.

In addition to the new Chief Operating Officer role, Finnpilot will establish a position of Director of Communications and Sustainability as of September 1, 2024. MSc (Econ.) Laura Kaustinen, who has been Finnpilot’s Communications Manager since 2018, will take up the position. Kaustinen has developed Finnpilot’s sustainability work in recent years in close cooperation with management and the entire organisation.

– The recent resolution of ownership policy of state-owned companies highlights the importance of sustainability in state-owned companies. With the appointment, the sustainability work will be carried forward in a more coherent, goal-oriented, and transparent manner than before. Laura Kaustinen has played a central role in building Finnpilot’s sustainability programme, developing our reporting and integrating sustainability into the company strategy. It is a pleasure to offer Laura more responsibility in her new role, says Kari Kosonen.
