About Finnpilot
Corporate Responsibility
Responsibility guides every pilotage journey. We ensure that Finland’s fairways remain safe and traffic flows smoothly in all conditions. We develop our fleet and operating practices with respect for the environment, reduce emissions, and safeguard the competence and well-being of our personnel.
Purposeful Responsibility Work
The conditions of the Finnish archipelago are among the most demanding in the world for maritime navigation. Finnpilot’s mission is to protect the fragile Baltic Sea archipelago from the risks posed by vessel traffic. A pilot with local knowledge is an invaluable aid to the ship’s master when navigating Finland’s shallow, rocky, and narrow fairways, where the consequences of a maritime accident leading to an oil or chemical spill could be devastating.
Our mission is rooted in responsibility, yet organizing pilotage operations inevitably has impacts on the environment and people. As a state-owned company, we are expected by our owner and stakeholders to lead the way in corporate responsibility. Finnpilot meets these expectations.
We work to reduce the environmental impacts caused by organizing pilotage operations. We take care of our personnel and invest heavily in occupational safety. Responsibility is integrated into our strategy, management, and reward systems. Our work is guided by shared operating principles, international agreements, and recognized corporate responsibility guidelines. Based on our values and ethical principles, we ensure that every Finnpilot employee knows how to act responsibly and correctly.
We have an anonymous whistleblowing channel, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ETJ+ certified quality and environmental management systems, as well as a sustainability program reviewed annually, covering all ESG dimensions: environment, social responsibility, and good governance. The Board and the management team regularly monitor the achievement of these objectives. In addition, we incorporate sustainability considerations into procurement and supply chains and track the carbon footprint of outsourced services.
