BALTIC PILOTAGE (ITÄMERENLUOTSAUS)

Finnpilot Pilotage provides licensed deep sea pilot and ice pilot services to vessels traveling to and from Finnish ports, as well as for transits in the Baltic Sea, the Gulf of Finland, the Bay of Bothnia, and the Sea of Bothnia. All Finnish pilots providing Baltic pilotage undergo training in accordance with IMO Resolution A.1081(28) and are licensed by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency in compliance with the Finnish Pilotage Act (561/2023).

Procedure:

Requests for deep sea pilotage should be submitted no later than 72 h in advance. The final order for the deep sea pilotage should be placed 48 h in advance. Any changes to pilot orders must be reported without delay. Price estimates can be requested from the pilot dispatch centre by e-mail.

Deep sea and ice pilots generally board or disembark a vessel in Finnish ports or at sea in the following positions, although other boarding positions may also be used:

    • 59° 42,50’ N / 023° 05,80’ E Hanko S
    • 59° 51,90′ N / 024° 09,45′ E Porkkala
    • 59° 59,00’ N / 024° 56,90’ E Helsinki S
    • 60° 00,01′ N / 025° 32,62′ E Emäsalo
    • 60° 10,00′ N / 026° 36,20′ E Kotkan majakka

Note:

• Vessels sailing to or from the ports of Oulu and Kemi with a maximum draught exceeding 10 metres shall primarily use pilot boarding position Oulu W (65° 05,00’ N / 023° 53,50’ E) for pilot boarding or disembarkation. Depending on ice conditions and agreement between vessel and Finnpilot, also other pilot boarding positions further south may be used.
• However, national pilotage services for these vessels are only provided to port of Oulu on fairway n:o 218 between pilotage limit 105 (65° 19,98′ N 24° 09,03′ E / 65° 19,35′ N 24° 09,10′ E) and Oulu port.
• Consequently, for port of Kemi national pilotage services are only provided between pilotage limit 103 (65° 26,59′ N 24° 13,42′ E / 65° 26,25′ N 24° 13,85′ E) and Kemi port.
• Should a vessel want to get pilotage between the pilot boarding position and the afore mentioned pilotage limits, a request for deep sea pilotage shall be submitted according to information and time limits provided above.
